2010 Adult Formation Offerings Dear Grace Community,
There will be no Uncorking Theology in May. In fact, after May, Uncorking Theology, the Bible Study, and Coffee Klatch will be taking the summer off as I work with Shawn and other members of the parish to strengthen this aspect of the Spiritual Growth and Formation Ministry. To be sure, as P.D. James once observed: "There comes a time when every scientist, even God, has to write off an experiment." Or, it could also be said, there is also a time to see what we want to do next.
The goal is to improve some of the existing programs and develop new programs in response to the interests and needs of the parish. As regards the latter, we are developing an online Bible Study, as well as a film series, Faith on Film. If you have ideas for adult formation programs, please bring them to my attention. As the Coordinator of Adult Formation, I take seriously the parish's mandate to expand adult formation programs to provide instruction, dialogue, and open exploration to deepen our understanding of God's call to us.
Peace,
Brett (brett.fulkerson-smith@iit.edu) |

Education
for Ministry (EFM) EfM (Education for Ministry) finished its first year in May, 2010. EfM is a four year study program of church history, beginning with a study of the Old Testament the first year, moving to the New Testament the second, and looking at our church history the last two years. We meet weekly on Monday evenings from 7 - 9pm. Each week we read sections of the Bible along with commentary. At our weekly gatherings Cherryl Holt, our mentor, leads lively conversations concerning the readings. Cherryl is now recruiting for new members to join us in September, 2010.
Over the past year I have found new insights and meaning in my relationship with God, endearing friendships in a wonderful community and an adventurous journey of faith. I have a new awareness of this precious gift of life from God. Please join us this fall in the great adventure.
For more information and to register, contact Cherryl Holt, our mentor, at cherrylh@msn.com. There are three spots open for first year students.
Faithfully,
