Grace Episcopal Church in Oak Park is delighted to announce the restart of a longstanding annual lecture/ sermon program, this time under a new title: Church in the Public Square. The inaugural offering this year on Sept. 29 and Sept. 30 will feature the distinguished African-American theologian from Yale University - Professor Willie James Jennings, author of The Christian Imagination-Theology and the Origins of Race, regarded widely as among the most outstanding theological treatises of the last 15 years.
The Seminar will be of immense interest to all individuals interested in how the modern Christian imagination developed, and how instrumental that development has been in the creation and maintenance of racially segregated societies. This is an event that should not be missed.
Saturday's lecture is a ticketed event (tickets available here) from 1:30 - 6PM. Rev. Dr. Jennings will be the preacher at Grace’s 10:30 am worship service on the 30th. All are welcome. The video on this page is a 5-min. introduction to Professor Jennings and his work. His bio is here.
This program made possible through the generosity of the Rev. Michael Johnston bequest and gifts of the Lascelles Anderson Family.
