"The Shepherd of Hermas" is an early Christian text, likely written in the 2nd century CE. It consists of visions, mandates, and parables delivered to Hermas, a former slave, by an angelic figure in the form of a shepherd. The book emphasizes repentance, moral integrity, and the importance of leading a righteous life to avoid judgment. Although it was highly influential in the early church and even considered scripture by some early Christians, it was eventually excluded from the New Testament canon. Its significance lies in its reflection of early Christian concerns about ethics, forgiveness, and the role of the church in guiding believers.
